Explanation

An umbilical stump is what remains of a baby's umbilical cord after it has been cut at birth. This small piece of cord is left attached to the baby's belly button. Over time, usually within 1 to 2 weeks after birth, the stump dries out, turns black, and falls off naturally, leaving behind the belly button.
