Explanation

Total laryngectomy is a surgical procedure where the entire voice box, also known as the larynx, is removed. This is usually done to treat severe conditions such as cancer. After the surgery, the person will not be able to speak in the usual way and will breathe through a hole in their neck, called a stoma.
