Explanation

A tonsil is a small, soft tissue structure located in the back of the throat. There are two of them, one on each side. They are part of the body's immune system, helping to fight off infections by trapping germs that come in through the mouth or nose. However, sometimes they can become infected themselves, causing a condition known as tonsillitis.
