TB exposure

What does "TB exposure" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

TB exposure refers to coming into contact with the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, a serious lung disease. This can happen when a person with active tuberculosis coughs, sneezes, or talks, releasing the bacteria into the air. However, being exposed to the bacteria doesn't necessarily mean a person will get sick. Some people can carry the bacteria without showing any symptoms, a condition known as latent tuberculosis.
