Reactive to light

What does "Reactive to light" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

"Reactive to light" is a term used in medicine to describe how the pupils of the eyes respond to light. Normally, when a light is shone into the eyes, the pupils (the black circles in the center of the eyes) should get smaller. This is a healthy response and shows that the nerves and muscles controlling the pupils are working properly. If the pupils do not react or react abnormally to light, it may indicate a problem with the eyes or brain.
