Explanation

The platysma is a thin muscle located in the front of the neck. It starts from the chest and shoulder region and extends up to the lower jaw. When this muscle contracts, it can cause the skin of the neck to tighten and the corners of the mouth to pull down. It's the muscle that's working when someone grimaces or frowns.
