Explanation

Passy-Muir placement refers to the process of inserting a special type of valve, known as a Passy-Muir valve, into a patient's tracheostomy tube. This tube is placed in the neck to help the patient breathe. The Passy-Muir valve allows the patient to speak and swallow more easily by redirecting air flow from the tracheostomy tube to the mouth and nose. This procedure is typically performed on patients who have difficulty breathing on their own.
