Partial vasectomy

What does "Partial vasectomy" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

A partial vasectomy is a medical procedure that involves blocking only a part of the vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles. This is done to reduce a man's fertility or to prevent the possibility of fathering a child. Unlike a full vasectomy, which blocks or cuts both tubes, a partial vasectomy leaves one tube open, allowing some sperm to still be present in a man's semen. However, the amount of sperm is significantly reduced, making it less likely for a man to cause a pregnancy.
