Massive strokes

What does "Massive strokes" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

Massive strokes are severe forms of strokes that cause extensive damage to the brain. They occur when the blood supply to a large part of the brain is cut off, usually due to a blood clot or a burst blood vessel. This lack of blood flow deprives the brain of oxygen and nutrients, causing brain cells to die. The effects of a massive stroke can be life-threatening and often result in significant physical or cognitive impairment.
