LMA anesthesia

What does "LMA anesthesia" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

LMA anesthesia refers to the use of a Laryngeal Mask Airway during a medical procedure. This is a type of device that is placed in the throat to help a patient breathe while they are unconscious. It is often used during surgeries where the patient needs to be asleep, but intubation (inserting a tube down the throat into the windpipe) is not necessary. The device allows anesthetic gases or oxygen to be delivered directly to the lungs, while also protecting the airway.
