Light reflex

What does "Light reflex" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

"Light reflex" in medicine refers to the natural response of the pupil, the black part in the center of the eye, to changes in light. When a light is shone into the eye, the pupil should become smaller or constrict to limit the amount of light that enters. This is a protective mechanism of the eye to prevent damage from excessive light. If the pupil does not respond in this way, it may indicate a problem with the eye or nervous system.
