Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty

What does "Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

Laparoscopic Pyeloplasty is a type of surgery used to correct a blockage or narrowing at the point where the kidney connects to the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder, known as the ureter. This condition is often called a ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction. The surgery is performed using a laparoscope, a thin tube with a camera, which is inserted through small incisions in the abdomen. This allows the surgeon to see and operate on the affected area without making a large cut.
