Explanation

K-wires, short for Kirschner wires, are thin metal rods used in surgery to hold broken bones in place while they heal. They are often used in hand, wrist, and foot surgeries. The wires are inserted through the skin and into the bone to keep it stable. After the bone has healed, the wires are usually removed.
