Explanation

A hematoma is a medical term for a collection of blood outside of a blood vessel. It happens when an injury causes blood vessels to break, and blood leaks into tissues where it doesn't belong. The blood then clots, causing the skin to swell and often form a painful lump. Hematomas can occur anywhere in the body, including the brain, muscles, and organs.
