Explanation

Hartmann's procedure is a type of surgery that is often used when there is a problem with the lower part of the colon, such as cancer or inflammation. During the surgery, the surgeon removes the diseased part of the colon and creates a temporary opening, or stoma, in the abdomen for waste to pass out of the body. Later, another surgery may be done to reconnect the healthy parts of the colon. This procedure is named after the French surgeon who first described it, Henri Albert Hartmann.
