Explanation

A fontanelle is a soft spot on a baby's head that is present at birth. It's where the skull bones haven't yet fused together. This allows the baby's head to be flexible and pass through the birth canal more easily. Over time, usually by the age of 2, these soft spots harden as the skull bones join together.
