Dix-Hallpike maneuver

What does "Dix-Hallpike maneuver" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

The Dix-Hallpike maneuver is a medical test that doctors use to diagnose a common cause of dizziness and balance problems. During the test, the doctor quickly moves the patient from a sitting position to lying down with their head tilted to one side and slightly over the edge of the examination table. This can trigger brief episodes of dizziness in people who have a condition called benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. The doctor can then use these reactions to help make a diagnosis.
