Cervical spondylosis

What does "Cervical spondylosis" mean in a report or doctor's letter? In our medical dictionary, you will find a patient-friendly explanation of the meaning of this medical term.

Explanation

"Cervical spondylosis" is a term used to describe age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in the neck. Over time, the disks dehydrate and shrink, causing bone spurs and other issues. This can lead to a variety of symptoms, such as neck pain and stiffness. The term "broad-based disc bulge" refers to a condition where the cushioning disks between the neck bones are sticking out more than they should. "Dorsal osteophytic ridge" refers to bone spurs, or extra bone growth, on the back side of the spine. "Mild central spinal stenosis" means that the space in the middle of the spine is slightly narrowed. "Mild foraminal narrowing" means that the openings on the sides of the spine where the nerves come out are also slightly narrowed.
