Explanation

An AV dialysis fistula is a connection made by a surgeon between an artery and a vein, usually in the arm, for the purpose of dialysis treatment. Dialysis is a process that cleans the blood when the kidneys are not able to do so. This connection allows the blood to flow from the body to the dialysis machine and back again. The fistula provides a long-lasting site through which blood can be removed and returned during dialysis.
