Explanation

Adenoids are small lumps of tissue located at the back of the throat, above the tonsils. They are part of the immune system and help to fight off infections in young children. However, they start to shrink after about age 5 and often disappear by the teenage years. When they get infected and swell, it can cause problems like difficulty in breathing and sleeping.
